The Captain’s Daughter (2001)

The Captain’s Daughter, is a visually beautiful interpretation of the classic story by famous Russian poet and writer Alexander Pushkin. In the late 1700s, Cossack Pugachev led a bloody revolt to infamously challenge the status quo of the country. The uprising plays backdrop to the romance between two young lovers, Pyotr Grinev and Masha, the Captain's daughter. The psychological terror of the events surrounding them plays out on the innocent Masha, who witnesses the death of both her parents and faces danger at the hands of the hateful Shvabrin who keeps her captive. “God-forbid anyone to witness a Russian Uprising – both senseless and merciless!” (Alexander Pushkin)
