One of Shakhnazarov’s earliest features is a whimsical film about Aleksei Beglov, a once famous step-dancer, who now leads a simple life. He works as a dance teacher and has a complicated relationship with his daughter. Beglov’s life changes when a young man, who broke his leg twice in the past and has no sense of rhythm, asks him for step-dancing lessons. Winter Evening in Gagrakh was a huge hit for Mosfilm in the 80s and now has a cult following.
