The Shakespearian classic adapted for the screen and directed by Grigori Kozintsev, tells the story of a King dividing his kingdom amongst his daughters according to their love for him, however the refusal of Cordelia sends the King into a fit of rage and madness. This classic Soviet era film also uses the score composed by the great Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich. Kozintsev’s brilliance in the making of the film illustrates why he was named People’s Artists of the USSR in 1964.
