(2013)

Genre: Drama
Duration: 80mins
Director: Boris Hlebnikov
Cast: Alexander Yatsenko, Anna Kotova, Vladimir Korobeinikov, Sergei Nasedkin

Powerful storytelling from the director of Free Floating and The Roads to Koktebel. The setting is a small village by a river in the Murmansk region of northern Russia. Idealistic young Sasha (Yatsenko) has come from the city to run a farm with hopes of enjoying a thriving country existence. But now he’s being pressured into leaving the land with bureaucrats from the local council urging him to sign a payoff. His ultimate plan is to move to the city together with his girlfriend Anna (Kotova) who works for the Council. But his farm workers persuade him to stay, inspiring him to fight a battle with the Council for his land. Slowly however, the workers begin turning on Sasha, and things take an expected turn.  “Starkly shot on hand-held digital camera in natural light by former Berlinale cinematography prize-winner Pavel Kostomarov (How I Spent Last Summer), A Long and Happy Life boasts an agreeably raw lo-fi aesthetic.” – Hollywood Reporter.
