Semyon Gorbunkov, an ordinary Soviet citizen, breaks his arm while on a holiday cruise. What he doesn’t know is that a gang of smugglers interpret this as a prearranged sign. Under the impression that he is in on the plan, the smugglers whisk away the oblivious Gorbunkov to an emergency “clinic” where his cast is filled with gold and diamonds. The gangsters quickly realise their mistake and head out to reclaim their stolen goods by whatever means necessary. When Gorbunkov finally realises the value in his arm, he contacts the police and tries to help return the diamonds to their rightful owner. A hilarious romp ensues. A Soviet box office blockbuster with 77 million viewers.
