“The Russian Hercules”, Ivan Poddubniy was an international symbol of wrestling in the first half of the 20th century. The iconic strongman had a sporting career spanning 45 years starting in a circus and culminating in six World Championship and Olympic titles.  But the legendary wrestler was remarkably trusting and easily deceived. He experienced epic victories alongside enormous changes of fate. When the regime transformed after the Revolution, Poddubniy had the opportunity to live glamorously  in the West, but he chose to return to his homeland, not to the big city but to his little village by the seaside with the woman he adored.
